The Trappist Trail is circular, leading from Brestanica on the banks of the River Sava to the former Trappist trail towards Sremič where the monks used to transport their wine. Growing by the trail is a 150-year-old yew planted by the Trappists. A good reminder of the monks’ advanced winemaking is a Trappist farm outbuilding with a cellar and a chapel. The trail then leads to Grmada Hill and St Hermagoras’ Church, then descends to the valley and climbs again to Rajhenburg Castle that used to be owned by the Trappists (they purchased it in 1881).
