Marathon through the Land of Cviček

The popular "Cviček Marathon" is organized by the Recreational Cycling Club Krško.

The outstanding achievements of Slovenia’s top cyclists have inspired many people in the Posavje region to take up cycling more often in their free time. This marathon offers participants a chance to test their personal limits and enjoy an active way of spending the day.

A clear head is essential for the marathon. Riding in a group requires different skills than solo adventures on your steel or carbon-frame bike. Some may be held back by the lack of top gear, while others know that all you really need are strong legs and a decent lung capacity.

There are three routes to choose from:

63 km – for endurance riders
34 km – for recreational cyclists
6 km – the "Čriček Marathon" for the youngest riders.

The organizers are especially proud of the casual riders – those who join with the goal of simply completing the ride and enjoying the social side of the event. These are the true connoisseurs of Posavje’s beauty, its local cuisine (sausages or grilled patties on a plate), and a glass of Cviček wine.

Although mostly flat, the Cviček Marathon includes a few challenges in elevation that will appeal even to KOM (King of the Mountain) hunters. The first serious test is the climb to "Cerkljanski hupser", followed by the decisive ascent – the “wedge” from Smednik to Raka, and further to Zavratec. But remember – the higher you climb, the more you get to enjoy the downhill ride.
